 Food, Drinks, and Fun

This blog details the triking adventures of Red and Big Guy, and their inaugural trip to the 2018 Sturgis Rally.

It’s been said Man does not live by bread alone. That adage has never been more true than at the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally. Food choices here are over the top, everything you can possibly imagine and quite a few things you can’t.

Steak? Got it covered. Check out the Dakotah Steakhouse in nearby Rapid City with its famous 24-ounce bone-in ribeye. Want something different for breakfast? Try the red velvet waffles, topped with whipped cream and chocolate chips at Deadwood Legends Steakhouse in Deadwood. Hungry for traditional roadhouse food? Drop in at The Loud American Roadhouse, right on Main Street in Sturgis. The steak tips are off the chain. In the mood for some traditional bar food and award-winning brews? Sturgis is home to The Knuckle Saloon/Knuckle Brewing Company; their Knucklehead Red won gold medal honors in the third annual Beer Fest in 2017. All that cold craft beer tastes delicious with fried steak tips. Got a yen for something sweet? Deadwood boasts the Chubby Chipmunk, home of hand-dipped chocolates.

And trust me—we haven’t even started on the wide array of street food vendors that will be ready to serve up mouth-watering and unusual treats for the duration of the rally. Main dishes, side dishes, desserts, beverages…check out their offerings and see if you can determine which vendors will be crowned People’s Choice and the “Best of the Best” champions of the Sturgis Street Food Throwdown on Sunday, August 5.

In the mood for something cold? There are a lot of saloons, bars, roadhouses and taverns available to quench your thirst. Check out The Knuckle Saloon, Beaver Bar, One-Eyed Jack’s Saloon, Dungeon Bar, Sidehack Saloon, the Bank Saloon, Broken Spoke Saloon—and of course, let’s not forget Full Throttle Saloon and the Buffalo Chip Campground!

Once you have filled your belly and cooled off with a libation, you’ll be looking for something to do. There is no shortage of activities to hold your interest in Sturgis; people-watching, flat track and rally racing, motorcycle scenic rides, a pub crawl, even a 5K run. If you like music, there are concerts to fit everyone’s tastes. Appearances by Kid Rock, Trace Adkins, Marshall Tucker Band, Foreigner, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Steppenwolf, Lita Ford, and Uncle Kracker, among others, are on the Sturgis 2018 calendar. There are a lot of things to watch and to do, including shopping for T-shirts and new leathers at the numerous vendors located in downtown Sturgis.

Don’t forget the sightseeing. You’re in the middle of scenic attractions like Mount Rushmore, the Crazy Horse Memorial, Devil’s Tower, Boulder Canyon, Deadwood…and I’ve only hit some of the highlights. Come for yourself and see what Sturgis is all about!

And keep an eye out for us – we might just buy you a beer!

Ride on!
