STURGIS, SD - Friday, August 3 Proclaimed Neil Hultman Day in Sturgis
Sturgis resident Neil Hultman was the first official Road Captain for the Jackpine Gypsies
Motorcycle Club. In 1947, he and Pappy Hoel worked hand in hand leading motorcycle tours
through the Black Hills, promoting the Sturgis Hill Climb, and the Half-Mile racing events. Over
the years, those events grew into what is now known as the Sturgis® Motorcycle Rally™.
Mr. Hultman proudly served in a M.A.S.H. unit during the Korean War and furthered his
commitment to our nation by working another 35-years at the Ft. Meade VA medical facility.
In honor of Mr. Hultman’s commitment to the Sturgis® Motorcycle Rally™ and the sport of
motorcycling as a whole; Friday, August 3 will be proclaimed Neil Hultman Day in Sturgis South
Dakota.
A reception for Mr. Hultman and his wife Ramona will take place on Friday, August 3 at 10:00
AM at Indian Motorcycle Sturgis, 2130 Main Street in Sturgis. Special guests, media and the
public are invited to attend and meet one of the founding fathers of the Sturgis® Motorcycle
Rally™.
